Important new chapter for team founded in 2009.

Team will target Boston-area races with training plans, group runs.

Boston, Mass. — The Dashing Whippets Running Team (“DWRT”) is excited to announce that it is expanding to Boston!   Dashing Whippets-Boston will launch with an inaugural team run on Saturday, November 21, 2015.

For more info and to sign up for a run (first run is on Saturday, November 21), check out Dashing Whippets-Boston’s website at http://boston.dashingwhippets.org

The new Boston-based team will be accredited with USA Track and Field-New England and with Road Runners Clubs of America (RRCA).  The team will provide group training plans for the 2016 Boston Marathon and other Northeastern races.

Dashing Whippets Running Team was founded in 2009 by graduates of Brown University and Trinity College, living in New York City.  DWRT’s profile has grown quickly in the tri-state running community, and the team is enthusiastic about being part of Boston’s important running culture.  DWRT has traditionally made the Boston Marathon a key goal race for the team, with course-specific training plans and group training runs.  In 2015, DWRT’s women placed fourth at Boston.  On November 1, 2015, 42 DWRT members achieved Boston-Qualifying times at the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon.

Dashing Whippets-Boston will be the team’s first chapter outside of New York City and will be led by David Parkinson and Adam Forkner as president and vice president.

David has been a key member of the DWRT leadership team in New York and recently relocated to Boston.  An attorney, he is also a RRCA-certified coach and has run 18 marathons, including 6 Boston Marathons.  Adam Forkner has run seriously for over 20 years.   At Trinity College (Hartford, CT), he was the captain of the cross country team his junior and senior years.  Adam has also served as a volunteer assistant track coach at the Epiphany School, an independent tuition-free middle school in Dorchester.  The remainder of the board will consist of three members of the New York chapter (Michael Alcamo, Daniela Alvarado, and Jonathan Park), who will assist with establishing the chapter before it transitions to a fully Boston-based board over the next year.

Background on the Dashing Whippets Running Team, Inc.

The Dashing Whippets Running Team is a competitive running team founded on, and driven by, the diversity of our team members.

With team members from all over the metropolitan area, the country and the world, and with greatly varied running goals, we find unity in recognizing and appreciating each others’ differences, and in our mutual enjoyment of running and competition.

Our ambition is to help each other become the best runners that we can possibly be, and so that we can fulfill our potential as athletes.  Whether that means running a new distance for the first time, training hard to hit a PR, or tackling a marathon, ultra-marathon or a triathlon, our team spirit, expert coaches and training plans help our teammates achieve and exceed their goals.  Key hallmarks of the team is our emphasis on healthy living and community service, and demonstrating respect and support for our teammates and our competitors alike.

I am looking for running experience, a club, a group of kids running, for an almost 8 year old boy, who loves to run and needs a sport. The Boston Schools don’t offer sports for young students.

Am hoping to hear of a meeting place in the Boston area, at least once a week for him to participate in.

Thanks in advance for your answer.

      Hi Gail!
Here’s a response from one of our coaches:
“Depending on location, I would suggest Waltham Track Club (west of Boston) or Quincy Track Club (south of Boston). Both great youth programs.”
      I hope that helps!
