Stage 5 (August 29th): We raised $533. 100% of your donations will be divided equally between the following two funds:
We are going to donate to Campaign Zero: https://www.joincampaignzero.org/#vision
Integrating recommendations from communities, research organizations and the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing, the policies of Campaign Zero aim to protect and preserve life.
And to Covid food assistance: https://www.feedingamerica.org/take-action/coronavirus
In a country that wastes billions of pounds of food each year, it’s almost shocking that anyone in America goes hungry. Yet every day, there are millions of children and adults who do not get the meals they need to thrive. We work to get nourishing food – from farmers, manufacturers, and retailers – to people in need. At the same time, we also seek to help the people we serve to build a path to a brighter, food-secure future.
Stage 4 (August 15th): We raised $583. 100% of your donations were divided equally between the following two funds:
We are going to donate to the Color of Change: https://colorofchange.org/
Our communities are being inundated with painful stories and images of Black people targeted, harassed, arrested, and killed by police and racist vigilantes. As Black people all across the country grapple with the aftermath of an unprecedented global pandemic, somehow Black people also have to figure how to stay alive while jogging, buying groceries, and yes — even while sleeping.
Color Of Change was founded in moments just like this one. As Black communities reeled in grief as all levels of government failed to protect Black people in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, we recognized that not enough of the people and institutions with power over our lives had any fear of disappointing Black people. For the last 15 years, we’ve focused on building that power.
And to Covid food assistance: https://www.feedingamerica.org/take-action/coronavirus
In this time of uncertainty, Feeding America along with its network of local leaders works to ensure that this pandemic does not perpetuate inequity or deepen the burdens often borne disproportionately by communities of color and low-income people. We are agile and adaptive, supporting the growing needs of the communities we serve.
Feeding America dedicates our resources, platforms, and political will to make the biggest impact on people with the greatest need. This moment is an opportunity to illuminate how we are all affected when some of us lack the protections of a safety net. By focusing on the needs of people most impacted, we can better ensure the health and safety of all communities.
Stage 3 (August 1st): We raised $4,085. 100% of your donations went to the following cause:
For Stage 3, we are going to donate to Jessy Scarpone’s bench through the Friends of Hudson River Park.
As many of you know, we lost a member of our Whippet family, Jessy Scarpone, last year. Donations for stage 3 go to the Friends of Hudson River Park, who will be naming a bench in her honor.
One of the admirable attributes of Sweet Jessy Leigh was her speed. She was an unbelievable competitor on her feet and ran with the Dashing Whippets Team in New York City. Many of her teammates speak highly of her skill, but, more importantly, what she brought to the Dashing Whippets. She was known for inspiring other runners, and focused on giving her very best and never giving up. These were words that Jessy lived by until the very last day, pushing us all to do our best.
This bench sits where Jessy ran frequently and with ferocity. She may have even rested near it during one of her last runs along Hudson River Park at sunset. Jessy made a difference to the world by being so many things–kind, generous, humorous, and humble. She was the best kind of friend and wanted everyone she loved to be near her, content, and happy. Jessy’s message is that she wants us to try harder than we ever thought we could. We can do more than we think we can.
This bench is meant to hold Jessy’s message. It is meant to warm, heal, and inspire. This bench is here to encourage love and also bad dance moves.
Jessy and her heart of gold were taken from us all too soon. We love and miss you, Jessy.
