The Dashing Whippets Running Team is a New York-based community of runners united by a shared passion for the sport. Our team brings together athletes from across the city, the country, and the world—each with unique backgrounds, goals, and experiences.
We are connected by a love for running and a commitment to pushing each other to be our best. Whether you're chasing a personal record, training for your first race, or simply looking for a supportive team, The Dashing Whippets are here to help you grow.
The Dashing Whippets welcome runners with a wide range of goals and levels of experience who strive to become the best they can be.
Our strong team spirit, expert coaches, and structured training plans help our members reach and exceed their individual goals.
Dashing Whippets Running Team is a 501(c)(3) non-profit running organization operating under the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and a club member of USA Track and Field (USATF).
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors of the Dashing Whippets is elected at the annual team meeting each March. New members are selected by the previous board and approved by a vote of a quorum of the membership body. The board then selects officers from among itself by majority vote. The 2025–2026 board of directors is below.
-
Jeremy Arthur
President
Jeremy joined the Whippets in 2016 and competes in all road distances, though his passion resides in 26.2. What he enjoys most about the Whippets is its blend of community, ambition, and fun: he is the regular host for Saturday long runs and always keen to discuss running goals at all levels — often overly so (just ask anyone who’s joined him on a 20-miler). He’s deeply committed to both the team and its members.
-
Stephanie Diacovo
Vice President
Stephanie fell in love with running post-college and joined the Whippets after completing her first marathon in 2018. She’s forever grateful for her inspiring teammates and training partners that have positively pushed her to faster and faster limits, leading her to drop her overall marathon PR by over an hour.
-
Anthony Amato
Treasurer
Anthony is a native New Yorker, avid runner, and joined the team in 2016. After a hiatus from running, Anthony is back on track, eager to regain his fitness and surpass previous milestones, whether running loops in Central Park or utilizing his commute for a workout.
-
Angela Petrone
Secretary
Angela fell in love with running in high school as a way to balance out her love of playing music and spending time inside. In 2011, she completed her first marathon in her hometown of Philly. After running solo for many years, Angela joined the Whippets as soon as she moved to NYC in 2023. Since then, Angela has been an enthusiastic member of the Whippets cheer squad and party pacers.
-
Stephen Cox
Stephen joined the Whippets in 2019. He runs the weekly track workouts on Thursday at the East River Track, organizes the Performance Team, and is on the coaching team as a short distance specialist. His background is in ultra running on trails but he has learned to love road and track races since moving to NYC. He’s always happy to discuss training and race goals, especially over a beer after a Thursday workout.
-
Maria Gilbert
Maria started running in third grade. She joined the Whippets in 2022 after moving to New York City. Previously, Maria ran with the Minnesota Running Club, Twin Cities Track Club, and Waterloo Track Club in Austin Texas. She competes in a broad range of distances, from 200 meters up to the full marathon. You can find her logging easy miles along the East River or hosting team workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Central Park. She enjoys meeting new people and having a group to work out with and push each other.
-
Freya Lindvall
Freya, a native New Yorker and former NCAA cross country and track athlete, joined the Whippets in 2022 after graduating from college. After competing at the NCAA level, she was looking for a supportive team to help her reach her future racing goals. Since joining, she has consistently improved on her college times and progressed to half marathons and marathons. She credits her success to the support and camaraderie of her teammates and is passionate about sharing that same encouragement with new members.
