Welcome to this week’s edition of our weekly news and events roundup of all things Whippet-related.

Congratulations to Ivette Mejia, who qualified for the Olympic Trials at the Valencia Marathon last weekend with a 2:38:24! Ivette is the third member of the team to qualify for the trials, joining Jessica Chichester and Grace Bowen.

Races Nearing Capacity
If an upcoming race is nearing capacity and you want to do it, make sure to register! It’s almost impossible to get in once the race fills up. None are currently nearing capacity.

2020 points race schedule
The NYRR Club Council has determined the 2020 points race schedule. Thanks to Kathleen for attending the Club Council meeting! Here are some details on how this all works:

• In 2020, there will be 11 races and at the end of the year, the lowest two scores are dropped.
• Scores are determined by adding the top 5 runners’ times (top 3 for masters), except for Team Championships where the top 10 open (top 5 masters) times are added together.
• Our open teams are in the A Division (no divisions for masters). Here are the current 2019 standings (https://results.nyrr.org/clubstandings).

The 2020 points race schedule is as follows:

2019 Team Points Race Update

Congrats to everyone who ran the Ted Corbitt 15k yesterday, we had great team results, with our open women, masters men and women, and 50+ women winning their divisions. That means for the year, the team finished as follows:

• Open women: tied for second place with CPTC (best team finish of all time!)
• Open men: fourth place (tied for the best team finish of all time)
• Masters women: second place (tied for the best team finish of all time)
• Masters men: second place (best team finish of all time!)
• 50+ women: fourth place (only 1 point out of third place!)
• 50+ men: second place (tied for the best team finish of all time!)

• Ann Restak was the 2nd woman OA at the Trot For Hunger 5K, where she finished in 18:34.
• Perry Anderson placed 5th OA at the Sri Chinmoy Thanksgiving Day 5K & 10K, finishing in 18:26.
• Daniel Masterson placed 3rd OA at the Pelham Half Marathon, where he finished in 1:14:00.
• Bobby Vasquez (32:52) placed 5th in his AG at the PPTC Turkey Trot 5M.
• Kathleen Servidea (30:10) was the 2nd woman OA at the Pequot Runners Thanksgiving Day Race.
• James Turley ran a one-minute PR of 29:43 at the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K.
