Hey all,
As some of you know, we can get guaranteed entries to the 2010 NYC Marathon by volunteering as a team for two races this year. The number of entries we get depends both on the number of members we have (defined by the number of people that run races as a Whippet) and the number of volunteers we have at the two events. Because we had over 60 people run with the team last year, we can get 2 spots if we get 10-20 volunteers, 3 if we get 21-30, and 4 if we have 31+. The first race we are going to volunteer for is the More Women’s Half Marathon on Sunday, April 25th. We’ll select another race in the near future. Volunteering for the team does not count toward your 9+1. What we’ve decided to do is to allocate the guaranteed spots based on the following criteria: · Must have run one race as a Whippet; · Must have volunteered at one event; · Must enter the 2010 NYC Marathon lottery. · For 1 of the spots we get, Rich and I will pick a person from the team based on certain factors such as attendance at practice and at races, speed, etc. · For all remaining spots (1, 2, or 3 depending on the number of volunteers, Rich and I will conduct a lottery after our second volunteer event. If you have volunteered at one event, you will get one entry in the lottery and if you have volunteered for both, you get two entries. · Also, you can bring friends to the volunteer events as well to boost our numbers – just make sure they know why they are volunteering. For each friend you bring, you get an extra entry in the team lottery. Hope that all makes sense. We’ll come up with a few options and post a poll regarding the second volunteer event. Let me know if you have any questions. Matt |

Thanks, Matt and Rich. It all makes sense to me.
I have no interest in running NYC this year but I'm definitely looking forward to volunteering on April 25. There's an outside chance that I'll have a conflict with my softball league that morning (I'm a league officer so I don't have a lot of flexiblity), but if that's the case I'll do what I can to minimize the conflict. I see that you've done a calendar entry. For everyone else's benefit... http://www.dashingwhi... Scott |

do we have anything left? I'd like to run this if possible! I badly want to get one in the book... Hey Rodnel, we got 5 race spots but all spots have been taken. You can still sign up under charity I hear though but you'd have to raise $2650 (and train!) in 12 weeks. Details are here: http://www.nyrrf.org/... |

My friend, Toby Tanser, is the founder of Shoe4Africa. I believe he has charity slots open for the NYC Marathon. I'm not sure what the minimum amount you need to raise is. I'll try to find out.
It's a great cause. The team is trying to build a children's hospital in Kenya. Here is their site: http://www.shoe4afric... If you join, you can meet and run with Anthony Edwards of the hit TV show ER. Edited by User 9,516,499 on Aug 17, 2010 11:34 AM |

I heard back from Toby. The minimum fundraising target is $2,500. If you're interested in raising money for S4A, let me know ASAP.

Oh awesome, but I think I'll wait until next year. Thanks for checking though.
