The team will get 5 spots in the 2011 NYC Marathon if we bring 30 volunteers to 2 separate NYRR events. The first one is here: http://www.dashingwhi.... Of those 5 spots, 4 will be giving out in a random lottery and the 5th will be a "captain's choice" that the captains will agree upon.

Criteria for eligibility for the 4 spots will be the following:

• Must volunteer at one of the two NYRR events or the Chase Corporate Challenge (to be posted later)
  
• Must write a short essay explaining why you want to run the marathon this year
  
• Must have bought and wear a team singlet for the marathon
  
• Must have run at least two races under the team name before the marathon (one of which must be a points race)
  
• Must have come to at least 5 practices
  
• Must have paid dues
  
• Must have entered the NYRR lottery
  

Each person will get one entry into the lottery for each time they volunteer (at one of the two NYRR team events or the Corporate Challenge) for a maximum of three lottery spots.

Thanks for posting these, Matt. Just to add a little additional commentary...

Don't be intimidated by the length of the list. If you really want to run the NYC Marathon in 2011 and didn't already qualify automatically, it's pretty easy to meet each of these requirements and give yourself a good shot at getting one of our bibs.

The NYRR requires you to enter the NYRR marathon lottery in order to receive one of our bibs -- we don't have control over that, and of course you get the added benefit of possibly qualifying by random draw.

All of the other to-dos are straightforward for active team members. For example, between January and August of 2010, that is in just the first eight months of last year, 88 different Whippets met requirement #4. They all ran two races under the team name and at least one of them was an NYRR Team Points race. (That was not a requirement to get a bib last year.)

I was looking over the requirements for consideration in obtaining one of the 5 spots for the Marathon.... I have most of the requirements met, but not all. I don't want to fill out the form, including essay until I have all the requirements met. Just need to get this volunteer credit out of the way, run 2 races attached to the Whippet team (one being a team points race), and also get my hands on a Whippets singlet...
So my question is when is the deadline to have the requirements met and have the form/essay submitted by?? Thx :)
