The Christmas Marathon at Van Cortlandt Park

Ho Ho Ho! The Christmas Marathon!

It's a free gift from Santa; from the guys who brought us The Thanksgiving Marathon.

- Marathon (4 loops)
- Half Marathon (2 loops)
- Marathon Relay (whatever loops)
- 10K (1 loop)
- Same 6.55-mile course as the Thanksgiving Marathon

Location:
Meet at the famous Tortoise & Hare statue in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. This is at the Parade Grounds, across the street from Lloyd's Carrot Cakes on 6087 Broadway; walk a few blocks (0.3 miles) north of the last stop on the 1 train, 242nd St. Walking map from station.

Check the Facebook Page and spread the word.

I've let MarathonGuide know about it, so they'll hopefully list it too.

That being said, I think it would be cute if two folks dressed up at Mr. and Mrs. Claus and then we had a bunch of elves and reindeer. I would be a reindeer :).

is this on the calendar yet? I spoke with Mike and Mike at the McArdle 15K (they both did very well) and it looks to be a fun race. They are also doing a secret santa / gift bag swap too so bring something in a bag and, take one home as a random gift. pretty neat.

Jackie: Meetup JUST eliminated the "Maybe" choice w/in the past few days. I actually like it. I'm a Meetup Organizer for another group, and Maybe's give us headaches, haha.

Lisa: Bad influences also force you to climb up 4 mountains in a single day. Both yours & Jackie's moms have a bounty on my head now.

Jackie: I'm including it in my MM stats, =). It only doesn't count if you're in contention for Maniac of the Year.

Oh phew, I knew there were peeps who wanted to use this as a MM qualifier :)

This does NOT count for a Maniac qualifier, since they have to approve those. You can list any kind of race you want in your profile (even make stuff up if you want); the problem is if there's any kind of review (i.e., MOTY or new members).

This is similar in style to the Thanksgiving Marathon. You can have them contact the MM's. I think the criteria was that there was an official race director and that the results would be posted.

I became an MM running the Knickerbocker and the Thanksgiving Marathon.

it looks like a decision was made that this calendar would be on the MM Calendar:
    http://www.marathonmaniacsdb.com/Maniacs/UpcomingRaces.as...

But, explicitly says it doesn't count towards stats. Doubtful that they'd change it at this point.

They specifically explained that this race was different from the Thanksgiving Marathon because it was not advertised 30 days in advance, which is why it will not count. It is only on the calendar because Kino and I begged them to add it just for this year, so we could see which other Maniacs are doing it, and they made an exception for the calendar only.

Hey Kino, those coordinates are a bit off. What you have there is Paul Mojaven's place. Nice!
For those of you who plan on plugging an address into your gps, you can use this:

    6113 Broadway
    Bronx, NY 10471

Directions updated! The old Tortoise & Hare location pointed to Bayside for some messed up reason. I went head and created a new location: http://www.meetup.com/dashing-whippets/venue/1450992/?eve...

Walking directions from 242 St (1) train subway station (it's 0.3mi north up Broadway, across from Lloyd's Carrot Cake on 6087 Broadway): http://tinyurl.com/vc-tortoise-hare

Laura is right. The MM calendar gatekeeper decided to include the event after Laura & I bugged him and the Prez approved it. I don't think newbies can use this race to qualify (Ellen). Might be worth a shot though? It's a free race.

The race would count for 50 States (http://www.50statesmarathonclub.com/50dc/rules.html) and 100 Marathon Club, I believe (http://www.100marathonclub.us/join100.htm).

I don't think the Thanksgiving Marathon was advertised 30 days in advance. Anyways, think people can still try for MM if you want. You never know.

I applied before the Thanksgiving Marathon results were posted, and was approved and signed up the same day.

Charles; the Thanksgiving Marathon totally slipped in and that was key to my "3 in 68" so . . . maybe that was the exception and they won't do it again for this same group. They are also planning a New Year's Marathon which unfortunately, wouldn't be able to get on the calendar in time either. We'll let Kino and Laura do the talking.
