We'll be going to Bobbi and the Strays, a no-kill shelter in Queens. Their main facility is in Glendale, NY but we're going to the Vetport at JFK where they currently house the large dogs. There may be an opportunity to take some of the dogs to a local park. And if you want to spend more time with a dog (beyond 1pm) you have the option of fostering him/her for the day. The nice thing about volunteering at this rescue is that it's very hands on. There are no restricted areas and very few restrictions on what you can do.
Here's the link to their website: http://www.bobbiandth...
I've also spoken to Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition (BARC) in Williamsburg and they will need volunteers once the weather gets colder. So I can set up volunteer opportunities there starting in November if people are interested. BARC is probably in a more convenient location.
So looking forward to this! Will we be running with them? And is there anything specific I should bring?
I'm doing the 18-mile run Sunday so I'm ok with walking :) Emily - where do you want to meet? Maybe Hunter College? On the way from your apt at a subway stop..
We should be able to run with some of the dogs, depending on which dogs are there on Saturday. I should have more information about that later this week. You don't need to bring anything. I would just recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes that you won't mind getting dirty.
I usually leave from 85th and drive north to the Triboro, so it might be better to meet at the 86th street 6 stop. Does that work for everyone? I'm flexible if that doesn't work.
The 86th stop is fine with me! I will just be walking over from the west side so wherever... We could take 1 more person now too!
86th St is fine. I'd definitely be interested in BARC Brooklyn to volunteer, its closer for me.
It looks like we will be able to take some of the dogs to a local park to run around and play. How about we meet at 86th street around 8:15. I'm bringing bagels so let me know if you have a preference.
Hey, 86th st sounds good to me!
Outside or on the platform? We should probably exchange info too. I'll e-mail Emily with my cell # and maybe we can pass them around.
Fine with me.. So, 86th/Lexington? Emily should have my cell.. Let me know if not.
I'll be in a black SUV on the SE corner of 86th & Lex. I'll message everyone my phone#.
Great pictures guys! Those dogs looked like they had a lot of fun. That's neat you could go for a run with them too.
A run with breaks for yanking, vomiting, pooping, peeing and drinking. The dogs that is.
The rescue is a 25-30 minute drive from my apt. on the UES, sometimes faster. We could pick a meeting spot and I can provide transportation and bagels.
