18 miles, 12 bridges, 1 big adventure

No location was chosen

Moved this to September 4th so we could do the Summer Streets run on August 14th. This was featured in the latest NYRR magazine. Looks like an awesome long distance training run for those working towards a fall marathon!

Hey Elizabeth (and all), right now only Patrick is a yes for this. He'd like to get 3 to 5 more yeses so it make sense for him to meet people so if everyone can RSVP yes or no if they are a maybe, that'd be great. Patrick will probably do the 18 miles at between 8:30 and 9:00 pace so definitely join him if you'd like to do that!

    I am not sure I can handle the 18 at 8:30, but I would if it's 9 to 9:30... so I am a maybe!

I'm sure 9:00 is doable for most people. Patrick, what do you think?

I'm planning on doing about 9:00, possibly a little faster if I'm feeling good about it. The bridges we'll be running (with the exception of the GWB) will be short and therefore not very steep. However, it is 18 miles and will be somewhat to very challenging depending on how accustomed you are to the distance.

we are doing 20 miles next weekend and we've been to the GWB a bunch of times, so I am not sure I can/should go under pace much... still a "maybe"...

Hey all, it seems that most of you want to do between 9:00 and a little slower. Definitely RSVP yes if you can make it and want to do that time and others will too.

Also, it's definitely a good idea for everyone to study the map first and once you split into pace groups (or decide to stay together at the beginning), make sure not to leave anyone behind since you'll be running on some unfamiliar streets.

Hey guys! Maybe we could start at 7:00am. I think 8:00 is a little bit late for a 18 miles run. Just a thought, but i`m still in.

7 am works for me. Hopefully i can handle around a 9 minute mile. I was in the 9:30 group at the long run this past weekend and they went faster than that for a lot of the time and it was fine. I don't want to be holding anyone back though, so I will bring the map and can either go on my own or bail early if i can't keep up.

I'd prefer 8 since I'm coming from Brooklyn. For anyone concerned about temperature, it's projected to only be 74 by 11 tomorrow.

Stopped the watch a couple times at pit stops, but left it running during traffic (and there was quite a bit of it).

Nice pictures! I'm guessing it's hard to navigate the course? Did you have to carry a map and look at it a lot?

Parts of this route are beautiful (Ward's Island, Harlem River Drive, Inwood Park, Riverside Drive, GWB), but the Bronx parts are mostly in food processing and auto body shop areas with a lot of trash on the ground. Still, a fun route that I would definitely do again, though it might be better to do the course in reverse since the elevation climbs are brutal for the last several miles.

Interesting course, but we need to fix part of those directions. The last 5 miles are so hilly. Great weather for a long run
