VT50 (50-mile, 50K, 50-mile relay) - 9/26/2010

The VT 50 is a great race - there's no qualification requirement or cap on runners so you can sign up the day before the race (Saturday afternoon) at Ascutney Mountain Resort in Vermont.

There is a 50K trail race, 50-mile trail race, 50-mile bike (full already for this year) and 50-mile relay. With the relay, you can try out a longer trail race over tough terrain but keep mileage under 20. The 3 relay legs are all on the 50-mile course.

The courses (50K & 50-mile) are loops starting and ending at Ascutney Mountain Resort in Brownsville, VT - easy drive from the city up I95 then I91. The course is along trails and dirt roads over hilly terrain.

What distance are you ladies attempting? I had to friends attempt the 50-miler last year and they both DNF'ed. They were unlucky though, with lots of mud.

I did the 50K last year - yes, it was VERY muddy so lots of people DNF (most of the race was barely walkable after the bikes went through) and I am signed up for 50K again this year. Some day I might do the 50... My brother biked the 50 last year and is signed up again. Solid course. There's also the VT100 in July that my aunt has done on horseback... http://www.vermont100.com/index.html

Thanks for the info. A friend of mine just completed the VT100, it was her 2nd attempt, so completing it got that DNF monkey off her chest.
Good Luck in the 50K and I hope it stays dry and that the bicyclists behave this year!!! I'll probably sit out this race this year...

Wow, impressive to have run the VT100!! I also hope it stays dry for everyone.. It's really actually fun to have the bikers out there too - we all were suffering through the muddy course together last year!

Very cool virtual tour of the approximate course.. Looks like the 50-mile and they don't publish the course map any more but gives a good general idea! http://therunscout.com/2009/08/vermont-50/

Getting super excited for this!!! Just a small warning.. I got an email from the race director that the 50K course measures to 51K this year so look forward to that extra 1K :)

FYI...the results say I didn't finish. I definitely did, and have pictures and a medal (and bumps and bruises) to prove it! We're getting the results fixed. :)
