East River Park Training Run

East River Park (map)

Selected By: Matthew

We currently do workouts on the East River and meet at the track in East River Park east of the FDR at East 6th Street.

Important Info about East River Park Track: The Whippets have been running here for a year without any problems. But please be aware that there are no overhead lights, so it gets a little dark, and during winter months the bathrooms are closed and the water fountains are off. Bring your own water and see you there!

We will be doing the prescribed Thursday workout in the 10k program as seen here:

http://files.meetup.c...

10k runners should select a program within the 10k program and marathoners should do the Intermediate Stamina program. The track is a great place to do a workout or to run a few easy miles so don't be intimidated (you don't have to do speedwork if you've never done it before).

Can't find us? Call Rich at 781 - three six seven - eight two four four. Call Scott at 646 - four nine six - two three one two.

If I'm running the race to deliver 4 miler on Sunday, should I still do this interval workout?

Hey Marvin, I would say it depends on what your goal race is. If you want to kick butt at the 10k, then I would say to still do the workout and train through the 4 miler. I mean, still race the 4 miler, but don't taper for it.

Thanks Matt...good point. Will use the 4 miler as a tempo run.

Thursday's track workout details are posted in the Meetup event. In summary, we're doing a pyramid (shorter distances to longer distances and back to shorter distances) at 10K pace with VERY short recovery times. Then we'll do a beer mile!

Hi, all -- currently there is a forecast for light sprinkles on Thursday night. Just want to let you know that we'll be having our workout and beer mile even if there's rain. REMINDERS: water fountains are now off and bathrooms are locked by 7pm. It's a bummer but that's NYC...

Got to the cube late (got off at the wrong stop) and wasn't feeling well so I made a last-minute decision to head home. Sad I missed it!

Needed to skip out on tonight...think I strained a muscle in my leg yesterday from a gym weight machine and want to take a few days off until it feels better...
