Central Park Training Run

Central Park (map)

Selected By: Matthew

For our Tuesday night training runs, we meet at 86th and Fifth Avenue. If you're in need of bag check, you can use NYRR for bag check (closes at 8:00pm) or NYSC (at 86th and Lexington) if you're a member.

We will wait 5 minutes for Whippets before we start our run. Please show up at the starting point to get the full workout details, including distance, pacing groups, expected run time, and where we plan on meeting at the end. You can expect a typical workout to be between 3 and 6 miles. After our run, we will perform stretches at the designated finish area.

When you RSVP, please post your pace time and/or training run distance for the day. You may also use the Talk about this Meetup area to start a discussion.

If you're not running a marathon this fall, you're invited to join a Whippets 10K training program that starts on Tuesday, October 26! Some details are posted here... http://www.dashingwhippets.org/messages/boards/thread/992... ...and additional info will be emailed weekly.

Make sure to RSVP for the first run of the 10k program! Marathoners doing New York can and should also attend and do the intermediate stamina workout. This should probably be one of the last harder runs before November 7th, although you can also do the speedwork on Thursday (but don't push it too hard).

Tuesday workout plan for 10K runners (and marathoners if interested): Reservoir loops (1.5M each). Beginner/Returning plan: 2-3 loops, easy pace. Developing plan: 2 loops easy, then 1M at half marathon pace. Intermediate plan: 2 x 0.5M easy, 1.5M half marathon pace with NO REST between pace changes, finish with 0.5M easy (total = 3 loops). (If ambitious, do one more loop at half mara pace.) There will be multiple pacing groups. This workout will be followed by strides and form drills.

patricia, sounds good; easy rez loops plus form drills; I should be able to make it to The Spot by 7:10 but I'll reach you regardless or find you out there.

btw, niketown is doing their tuesday run (6:30pm) also on the rez so be prepared for thundering crowds.

Just wanted to make sure everyone knew where to meet since we have so many new members. We will meet at our normal location right outside the park at 86th and fifth avenue. If you are late and you don't see us there, you may be able to find us at the reservoir near engineer's gate.

Hey Jim! If it rains a little we usually still run unless it's a crazy storm but I think we'll be ok for tonight, looks like it won't start until later.

Thanks to everyone for the great showing last night. For 10K runners, Wednesday's workout is a recovery day. Beginner/Returning or Developing Runners can take the day off. Intermediate runners should do 20-40 minutes of easy jogging or very low intensity cross training.
