McCarren Park (Williamsburg) workout followed by Turkey's Nest

Roughly once a month, the Whippets are crossing the East River to do their Thursday workout with our friends from North Brooklyn Runners at the McCarren Park track.

Distance runners will do the following workouts (Scott will be coaching anyone interested in sprinting/shorter distances):

First Thursday of the month: 8-10 by 400s (speed workout) with full recovery
Second Thursday of the month: 6-8 by 800s (speed workout) with full recovery
Third Thursday of the month: 4-6 by one mile (speed workout) with full recovery
Fourth Thursday of the month: cruise interval ladder of 400, 800, 1200, mile and back down with one minute rest
Fifth Thursday of the month (if applicable): Wild-card workout

Subway directions to McCarren Park track via L train:

  • L to Bedford Ave. Exit station at FRONT of train if coming from Manhattan.
  • Get out of subway at N. 7th St and Driggs Ave. (If you're at Bedford Ave, walk one block east on 7th St, opposite direction of sunset, to get to Driggs.)
  • Walk NORTH on Driggs (streets will be going up) five blocks to N. 12th St
  • Turn right at N. 12th and walk one block to Union St.

Subway directions to McCarren Park track via G train:

  • G to Metropolitan Ave/Lorimer St. Exit station on NORTH end of train.
  • Get out of subway at Metropolitan and Union. (If you're at Lorimer St., walk one block west on Metropolitan, toward the sunset, to get to Union.)
  • Walk NORTH on Union (toward the BQE overpass) 7-8 blocks to N. 12th St.

    Ladder of 400m/800m/1600m/800m/400m (no 1200m!). Did them in 80s/3:03/6:21/2:59/74s. Couldn't hang out for later but always fun hanging with the NBR bunch.
