We are going to start doing training runs on the East River and meet at the track in East River Park east of the FDR at East 6th Street. This will give us the flexibility to do speed workouts or distance runs up the East River or over the bridges.
An example of a typical workout would be a one mile warmup, 4-6 mile repeats at the pace determined here: http://www.mcmillanru... with a 3 minute rest, and a one mile cooldown. I will post the workout a few days before each Thursday so everyone can figure out their pace.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Excellent, Matt. I'm in for the ladder at 7:15-7:30mm pace if anyone wants to join me.
I think after a few mojitos/sake shots last Thursday I said I was going to make cookies for this training run? Assuming my St. Pattys day isn't too hard core, I'll be making chocolate coconut cookies. Bring your A-game for the speed work out and your appetite for the cookies!
Yup Mark, you said you would bake some cookies but you said you would bring it on tues. Guess you can't handle competition from Benny's Bars.
Hey everyone, make sure to check your paces with the link above and to use the cruise interval paces. If you have any questions, let me know!
Update: There will be no Mark cookies for this Meetup. St. Patrick's day celebration went a tad bit later then expected... :) Next time!
As usual, if you'd like to drop your stuff off before the run, you can come by my office (Meetup HQ) at 632 Broadway, 10th Floor between Bleecker and Broadway. Just give me a heads up if you're coming by. We'll be leaving at 6:45pm on the dot!
Thinking of running to the run to join you guys late, like usual, having trouble getting out of work these days.
How sketchy do you think running along that East River trail (From 34th down to 6th) would be tonight? It won't be as dark and is a nice night, are there usually people on it?
Jessica - I live there and you will be totally fine running down. Yes to all your points - not dark and people will be around. Watch out for cyclists...that's about it.
Hey guys! Sorry i didnt make it out last night! I was stuck in Brownsville til late for work and didnt get back to my apt til 720 :( Hope u all got a good run it though! :) It was gorgeous yesterday!
I'm just going to do a few miles and some strides since tapering for the NYC Half. Anyone who wants to do a full workout should the ladder workout we've done in the past starting at 400 meters followed by 800, 1200, 1600, and then back down. Do these each at cruise interval pace calculated by the McMillan link above and rest only 1 minute between each. These should be slower than speed workout pace with less rest.
