Team Volunteering for Run As One (4M)

Central Park (map)

Selected By: Matthew

We have to have team volunteers for guaranteed spots to the marathon and thought this would be a good race to volunteer for. If you are interested in getting a guaranteed spot, please RSVP and volunteer. Friends are also welcome! If you have any questions as to how guaranteed spots work, let me know (you do need to enter the NYRR lottery).

just adding some more incentive to volunteer for this race, as jess pointed out to me the race shirt for this event is a tech tee. as a volunteer, you get one for free!

It was last year. I make no guarantees for this year. But it's a high likelihood.

Hey Seth, don't need to sign up anywhere. Just let me know if you are coming!

We are up to 15 yeses and 4 maybes! Would love to get to 20 confirmed yeses by the end of this week so I can tell nyrr. 20 would get us 3 spots instead of just 2 so it would be great to get a few more. I think we get the race shirt as well and this race is usually a nice shirt so sign up if you can make it!

My mother is going to be in town that weekend now, I can probably get her to volunteer too. Do you know what we are doing though? She couldn't do anything with a lot of walking.

Hey Jess, not sure what we'll be doing yet. I don't think we'll know until race-day or shortly before that. I can't see there being too much walking, but there will probably be a lot of standing. I've never volunteered at a race before, so I can't really be sure...

Hi Jess, volunteer positions usually fall under 3 categories: corral marshal, course marshal, post race. If your mom is okay with standing, but not walking, I recommend that she ask to be put on post race distributing bagels, etc. I'll be volunteering as well on this one, so I can pull strings if need be. This race gets a lot of people so it'll be a busy day.

    Thanks Ken!
I think the standing might be too much for her too, if it's for the full 3 hours. BUT we are so close to the 20! If she was the deciding person we could probably make it work.

Matt I won't know until Monday when I get my work schedule but I would still love to do it if I can. I'll let you know ASAP.

Hi Jess, yeah, I would recommend that she try to do post race then. There should be some down time in between tasks (basically after you set up you just wait for the runners to come in and she can rest then). Being out on the course means a shorter shift, but then you would also have to walk out to your location and back, so I don't know if you want to do that.

Hey all, not sure where to meet yet. Edwin at NYRR will send me the details closer to the date of the race. I'll update as soon as I find out!

Hey all, we have to meet at 7:30 near the bandshell. We'll probably be doing a fluid station and/or post-race food. Let me know if you have any questions!

    Hey everyone-
This is my first race I've volunteered for. Do I need to do anything else or just show. Also, where is the bandshell? Thanks guys

Just show up. The Bandshell is right off the 72nd Street Transverse across from Bethesda Fountain.

Does this mean we're just 3 people off from another guaranteed spot?
If we end up one person away, we can get my mother to volunteer. I'll just talk to them about getting her a station where she can sit a bit, I think it might be possible.

Jessica, might be good to have your mom come. I think it's the average of the two events so in case we don't get 31+ for the next one, more would be better for this one.

Can you email me your mom's full name, by the way? I need to add her to the list I sent to nyrr.

Looks like my Mum is in! Does anyone have a small folding chair or stool they could bring? In case she needs to sit briefly. Thanks!

Jess -- I'll bring a lightweight folding chair on Sunday morning. Can you take it with you and keep it in your apartment until Tuesday? I want to be free to run after volunteering.

So just realized Scott, have we finally found the one thing you're not comfortable running with? I would have thought you'd just tie the chair round your waist and rock a sub-7 pace! ;)

My gang is on! if we need them, wife, son and 7 year old daughter she is small but has been the most enthusiastic help for the zico team on my past triathlon. That would add 2 to 3 volunteer, do we need them to secure an other spot for the NY marathon?

Hey sylvain, I've already submitted a list of names and we already have more than 30, which is the number we need. I think they can still come volunteer without being on the list though. Also, we still need volunteers for the half marathon on 4/25 if the family can come to that one (http://www.dashingwhippets.org/calendar/12250155/?from=li...). Thanks!

Also, I've submitted a list of volunteers, everyone has to show up at the bandshell at 7:30 am and sign in at the volunteer tent. Make sure to sign in on the dashing whippets list (we'll have our own sheet supposedly). Let me know if you have questions.

Great turnout of Whippets volunteers! I think we barely hit 31 members, enough for our maximum guaranteed spots.

Great job. I hope that post-race refreshments was an okay time for everyone.
