Grete's Great Gallop - Team Points Race

Central Park (map)

Selected By: Matthew

Grete's Gallop starts at 9am and is the points race, not the Norway run.

RSVP here if you are doing the half!

I think we should split this up into 2 Meetup events since only the Grete's Gallop Half is a points race. The 1.7mi Norway Run is a fast race, but isn't a team points race, and PR'ing it does not improve your NYRR corral placement. Trust me, I PR'ed it and my pace time did not improve. Only races of >=2mi count.

Good idea Kino. I just split out the Norway Run from Grete's Gallop. To RSVP for that, go here: http://www.meetup.com/dashing-whippets/calendar/14582543.

Since many of us are doing a marathon the following week, let me know if you plan on racing this or not. I'll probably take this one easy as my last training run before my marathon and can possibly pace some people to a 1:37 - 7:24 pace (auto qualifying for the NYC marathon or half for women under 40).

This is the next team points race. We'll need a really good turnout since a lot of us can't run it too hard because of marathons the following weekend. If you can race this one, please register and RSVP soon! This is a great chance to be one of the team's top runners and run a PR since the weather should be ideal for a half marathon since it's in the fall! Also, they usually have a great Norwegian festival afterward!

Hey all, we definitely need more people to do this since it's our next team points race. I think we only have 5 or 6 women that have said yes at the moment. Since the top five count toward team points, this could be a great chance to score points for the team!

If the weather's good, the festival is supposed to be fun. I'd heard they had a nice food spread.

Hey Rodnel, the team usually meets up 30 min before the race to warm up and break into pace groups. Great to hear you're doing this race!

Norma - we usually find each other at baggage check before the race and after. Look for a bunch of Whippet jerseys. Hope to see you there!

I'll be cheering everyone on since I'm probably just doing the Norway Run first. Who else wants to cheer with me??

A question for the half and full marathon veterans: what do you recommend as a solution for chafing to the sensitive, um... man-parts on the chest? (band-aid work?) Thanks

Hey Denley, I would just go with band-aids...

Denley, Jeff Lin turned me on to 3M Micropore tape: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Micropore-Paper-Tape-1530-2/dp/B... It's a surgical tape that will adhere to the skin well but can be removed with no pain, and it breathes well. Great stuff.

Denley, I use body glide and it seems to work pretty well

Thanks, Matt, Patrick, Yosuke, and Norma for your recommendations. I went with the band-aids as it was easiest to get. I will try the micropore tape and body glide for the next long run.

Fun cheering everyone on. It was hard not running knowing it was a team points race, but hopefully my rest will reap rewards in Chicago next week. Great to see everyone out there and impressive times set by all!
