These are great cause you don't have to compete in the same heat as the really fast people, you just start with the group that does about the same time as you.....it gives you a nice chance to feel what it feels like to come in first. Also, they call the track at the Armory the fastest indoor track in the country. If you have never run on an indoor track, it's really fun. It's so short so the laps fly by and it is banked on the turns. You feel like a real olympian when you are on it!
What races are the rest of you doing? The 2 mile sounds fun, but I also really want to try the mile and the 800...don't know if I have all three in me.
I definitely want to do the 800 and the mile. But knowing me, I'll also give the 2-miler a go. I wish I had spikes for this! I am supposed to do a 10-mile run today. I wonder if it would be unwise to run straight up to the Armory from work...
I'm going to do the mile and 800. If i have anything left, i'll do the 2 miler, but if not, i'll cheer you guys on.
Good Luck Guys!
I was looking at the photos and noticed one of my favorite trail running bloggers from California, Scott Dunlap (who is an incredible ultra-marathoner) is there! I checked his blog and he wrote a hilarious account of the event. Enjoy! http://runtrails.blogspot.com/2010/01/my-first-indoor-mil...![]()

Ha! That was pretty funny... I like the Flash Dance / Clark change...
Megan -- you and Ben took some great photos, thanks! And I'm glad you got into at least one of them...
For anyone who's doubtful about running this: it's well organized with multiple heats, and it makes a great speed workout. There are some real speedsters (4:20 mile for men, 4:45 mile for women, anyone?), but Whippets could handle the slower heats. For example, according to the race results, last year the median women's mile time was 6:16 and the last decile was 7:18, while the median men's mile was 5:14 and last decile was 6:14.
