Girls on the Run is an international program that educates and prepares preteen girls for a lifetime of self respect and healthy living. The Manhattan chapter is holding a 5K fun run for girls who have just completed a training program for that distance.
They need volunteers! Women athletes can volunteer to be a "running buddy," paired up with a girl to accompany her on the course and provide support and encouragement. Women and men are needed as course marshalls, cheerers, and help with clean-up after the event.
This is something anyone can do, and it will mean a lot to the girls and to the organization. I am planning on being there immediately after our ASICS group run.
For more information about the event, view the following PDF. (Event starts at 9:30, but volunteers must be there at 8:45.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: For women want to volunteer as a "running buddy," you must register with Girls on the Run prior to December 5. More information is here:

For non-running buddies, just RSVP "yes" and I'll coordinate with the Girls on the Run organizer to let them know how many are coming. Thanks!
Way to represent with the jersey, Scott! Good luck with the event tomorrow.
UPDATE! We are desperately needed for their "cheering section" -- which means you don't have to show up until 9-9:15. Don't be late, though -- the race starts at 9:30. If you don't see me, call me at 646-496-2312 and I'll direct you to the location.
Volunteers: thanks for signing up! Please meet me at Asphalt Green (90th St. and York Ave.) at 8:30 to help set up and get your volunteer assignments -- we'll either be course marshalls or designated cheerers. If you don't know me, I'll be wearing a blue Whippets singlet and black sweatpants. See you Saturday morning!
