Training Run

Jan 21 Thu 7:00 PM
Location

East 6th St
New York, NY 10009

Estimated attendance

Matthew and Rich H

We are going to start doing training runs on the East River and meet at the track in East River Park east of the FDR at East 6th Street. This will give us the flexibility to do speed workouts or distance runs up the East River or over the bridges.

An example of a typical workout would be a one mile warmup, 4-6 mile repeats at the pace determined here: http://www.mcmillanru... with a 3 minute rest, and a one mile cooldown. I will post the workout a few days before each Thursday so everyone can figure out their pace.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hey all, I was thinking of doing the ladder again (400, 800, 1200, 2 1600s this time, and back down). The ladder would be at cruise interval pace (slower, but much less rest). I know a lot of people are doing the half this weekend, but it seems like most people aren't looking to PR and have a goal to PR in a future race. In that case, I'd say to train through this weekend and not rest too much on Thursday.

Fanny: No problem. All: I'm going to take my chances at the Armory tomorrow but it doesn't sound like many Whippets will be able to join me. I'll just show up there and do whatever workout Matt has assigned. If anyone else wants to go there, make sure you show up at 6 sharp and look for me -- I'm freckle-faced and wearing a Whippets singlet.

I maybe able to make it to the armory but will probably just take an easy run and recalibrate my footpod. Will keep you posted. Amy, is your offer still open to keep out things at your workplace?

hey guys! im really gonna try to make it to this one! Work and other obstacles have held me back from the other meet ups and ive had to just run by myself. Being here for only two weeks now sometimes makes it tough to figure out exactly where ur going all the time, but i really think i will be at this one! look forward to meeting you all! :)

OK! So now people have two choices for Jan. 21 -- 6pm SHARP at the Armory at 169th & Fort Washington (look for the people in the Whippets jerseys) or 7pm at the East River Park track.

I'll still be at the track on the lower east side since I won't be able to make it to the armory by 6:00.

Hi, everyone. I talked with several people at the Jan. 7 speed workout to see if they could make it to the Armory Track at 6pm on Jan. 21 (169th & Fort Washington -- 1, A, C subway). It seemed doable for most, except possibly Fanny. If you can make it by 6, we can do a speed workout on the indoor track for free until 7pm, then we get kicked off and only paying runners can use it for a track meet. There's bathrooms, a place to change, and lockers if you bring a lock. How's that sound?
