We are going to start doing training runs on the East River and meet at the track in East River Park east of the FDR at East 6th Street. This will give us the flexibility to do speed workouts or distance runs up the East River or over the bridges.

An example of a typical workout would be a one mile warmup, 4-6 mile repeats at the pace determined here: http://www.mcmillanru... with a 3 minute rest, and a one mile cooldown. I will post the workout a few days before each Thursday so everyone can figure out their pace.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

People can also store bags and change at my office 50 Cooper Square at Astor Place. Just come after 6 and call 212-529-5252 x1025. So I can send down the elvevator.

Matt posted the best link to the McMillan Calculator. For lazy people like me, here's a shortcut -- this file shows recommended paces for Speed Interval or Cruise Interval workouts for various 10k times between 11mm and 6mm: http://files.meetup.com/1454408/McMillan_Speedwork_Paces....

    Hey all,

Let's do 800s today. That's two laps. Use the link above to calculate your paces (use the speed workout pace for long distance runners). We'll rest for a one lap jog in between and try to do 6-8 repeats.

I'd like to try to come to this one.
There was some talk before about it being in a bad neighborhood? I don't really know the area at all. Would I be Ok walking over by myself?

Speed workouts are tough! We did 8x800m. I ran them in 2:59, 3:10, 3:17, 3:13, 3:09, 3:16, 3:16, 3:11. Almost all in my McMillan range of 3:11.2 to 3:20.1. http://connect.ga.... Afterwards got some grub in Brooklyn at La Taqueria.
