We are going to start doing training runs on the East River and meet at the track in East River Park east of the FDR at East 6th Street. This will give us the flexibility to do speed workouts or distance runs up the East River or over the bridges.

An example of a typical workout would be a one mile warmup, 4-6 mile repeats at the pace determined here: http://www.mcmillanru... with a 3 minute rest, and a one mile cooldown. I will post the workout a few days before each Thursday so everyone can figure out their pace.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

I like the fact that we're all treating the LES like the ghetto.

I'll definitely go since we can run together to the track. I run really slow compared to you guys. You might leave me behind to fight the loiterers screaming "ay mami" I won't put any lip gloss that way noone will be tempted to harass me. Worse case scenario at least I know all of you can run for help.

Rich -- I'll be taking you up on your offer. I'll come to your office at 6:30ish.
    Matt -- 3-4 x 800 sounds like a good pre-race workout to me.

You all can come over to my office at 632 Broadway (btw Houston and Bleecker) 10th Floor aka Meetup HQ to drop off your stuff if you'd like. You can drop off your bag, use the restroom, etc and we'll head out at 6:45pm sharp and jog over to the track which is 1.3mi away.

Haha, I think we are all faster than anyone that might steal our stuff. I think there will be enough runners around with other teams that run there that it's somewhat self-policing. We'll see how it goes the first week. Also, since Kleinerman is Sunday, we probably won't do anything too crazy Thursday. Maybe just 3-4 800 repeats?

Thanks Matt. If someone steals our stuff, you have to chase them down, since you're the fastest.

I actually assumed it wasn't that busy and would be ok leaving my bag there if it isn't rainy. We can leave it in the middle of the field as long as no soccer is going on and I'm pretty sure no one will take anything, especially if there are a lot of bags together.

Does anyone know how busy the track is this time of year? And I'm thinking the answer is 'no,' but is it safe to leave belongings/bags on the sidelines during the run?

Hi, Joanna -- I am going to see if I can meet Rich at his office at 6:45 and jog over from there. Or anyone can meet at 7 on the track itself, which you can get to by crossing the FDR Drive via the pedestrian bridge at 6th St.

Great workout. Did 4x800m at 3:00-3:10. Can't wait to do more of these! Got food and drinks afterwards at Slainte. Here are my laps on my Garmin, though it's a bit messed up: http://connect.ga...
    • Short Distance Coach/Pacer (7:30-8)
Great workout -- neither too easy nor too hard. I'll be back for more!
    •  It was my first Dashing Whippets Meetup and it was awesome. Everyone was very friendly and cool. Rich and Matt did a great job organizing. Running with a group is soooo much better then running alone.
