Hiring marks the next step in the team’s steady development.

New York, NY — The Dashing Whippets Running Team (“DWRT”) is excited to announce that it is hiring USATF-certified running coach Chris Forti.  Coach Forti will continue his work developing team training plans with coach Scott Batten and will oversee DWRT’s Thursday track workouts.  The coaching staff can be contacted at " target="_blank">.

The Dashing Whippets Manhattan track workout is held each Thursday at 7 pm at the East River Park Track, located at East 6th Street and the East River.  See:  http://www.meetup.com/dashing-whippets/.

Chris Forti (often known to his teammates as “40”) has been running for more than 20 years and coaching for more than 10 years. Over that time, he competed in high school, NCAA Division III and open categories and coached at the youth, high school and adult levels. For the past two years, Chris has worked with many DWRT members in achieving multiple PRs and BQs, and will add a further level of formality to the team’s coaching offerings.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to coach such a unique and diverse team,” said Forti.  “Club members have such a wide variety of goals and, with the combined effort and expertise of Scott and myself, we are committed to helping everybody achieve them.”

Coach Scott Batten will continue to develop training plans, especially focusing on distances from the mile to the 10K.  Scott has been a DWRT coach since 2010 and has developed the team’s training offerings from scratch.  “Chris Forti’s hiring is a great step forward for the team,” Scott said.  “Chris combines the wisdom of experience with a fun and engaging personality.  I have enjoyed working with him and look forward to partnering to help our members meet their goals.”

Background on the Dashing Whippets Running Team, Inc.

The Dashing Whippets Running Team is a competitive running team founded on, and driven by, the diversity of our team members.

With team members from all over the metropolitan area, the country and the world, and with greatly varied running goals, we find unity in recognizing and appreciating each others’ differences, and in our mutual enjoyment of running and competition.

Our ambition is to help each other become the best runners that we can possibly be, and so that we can fulfill our potential as athletes.  Whether that means running a new distance for the first time, training hard to hit a PR, or tackling a marathon, ultra-marathon or a triathlon, our team spirit, expert coaches and training plans help our teammates achieve and exceed their goals.  Key hallmarks of the team are our emphasis on healthy living and philanthropy, and demonstrating respect and support for our teammates and our competitors alike.
